[dropcap]F[/dropcap]irst post for 2016, let’s fill it with random thoughts, especially the cynical ones :P
On Fancy Words
For me, words have become more intriguing these days. When talking and writing, I tend to use simple words that I commonly hear and can understood well. Writing academically has certain rules and structure which requires a lot of reading, knowledge and proofreading. I always envy people who loves to read Thesaurus and written in eloquent fashion, with intellectual words and obviously, correct grammar.
On Weird Words
Life also shifted vastly nowadays, there are new words added to the dictionary every now and then. Inspired by the pop culture, at 2001, Oxford Dictionary added the words D’oh (a famous catchphrase popularize by Homer Simpson). At 2013, the word twerk, derp, and phablet got into Oxford Dictionary. Word of the year for 2015 is an emoji.
Face with Tears of Joy emoji to be exact 😂. Yes, that’s just as weirdly as Pantone Color of The Year for 2016, which introduced a boring dual color Rose Quartz and Serenity.
On Trends
The rise of so-called Selebgram (Celebrity + Instagram = that’s quite interesting) also rockets cool-hipstery magazine like Kinfolk, Monocle, Frankie, HypeBeast, etc (and also popularize VSCo filters). Let me remind you this, the magazine is not cheap. You can’t put it beside your breakfast, your fancy breakfast would harm the magazine :))
I, myself, jump into the cool wagon, buying my first Kinfolk Home. A 368 pages magazine that showcases the most beautiful houses across the world, which implemented slow living, green lifestyle and also utilize reclaimed woods and/or nature as the main elements.
“The Kinfolk Home explores the slow living movement from a global perspective, presenting tours of creatively conceived domestic environments from Tokyo to Toronto. Featuring stunning photography and thought-provoking essays, the book is a reexamination of what it means to live small and conscientiously.”
Julie Carlson, Editor In Chief of REMODELISTA
Please, define small. Some of them hired experience architect to design the house and use sophisticated technique to build it. I always wonder, how such unaffordable lifestyle can be achieved? I’m not being bitter, but we should stop just being an employee. We should start working double or triple shift, doing freelance job, and running side business in our spare time. So in the end, we’ll be able to achieve a live that is small and conscientiously.
And can I just say that muted neutral color tones is not really my jam?
On Decluttering
This new year I’ve decided to do some changes things, mostly in my unorganized life. I feel like I’ve been having too much fun and forgetting what the word “planning” is all about. I write a long to-do list without really fulfill them all. I wanted things, beyond things, on top of things, while I’m having another things. I feel like a total mess and maybe it’s time to get back on my feet.
This week, I separated books on my room, move books that I rarely read to make some space. I organized my TV series collection and font collection on my laptop. I bought everything that crossed my mind for the new year. Things I need and things I want. Hoping that I won’t make another reckless purchase along the year.
I started writing all things I wanted to do for a week, but also made separate page for task that I think I CAN finished realistically. Put priorities, they said.
On Deciding A Word
Some says, having a New Year Goal isn’t fit anymore with our lifestyle. One should pick one word to describe their year, to stay focused, to keep track. To label the year.
I chose mine. It is… Whatever (cynical tone intended).
I read too many self-help article last year and I felt sick :)) Sick that I’m not able to do all that. Sick that it’s not going to work with me. It’s called self help. You should be able to help yourself, see what’s working and what’s not. Stop reading if it’s too irrelevant. The most important thing, just do what you want to do.
I promise, I won’t keep the year by being bitter and cynical after this :)) Have an adventurous weekend!
