The Silver Lining of October

What’s the catch of last month?

Ayuningtyas Putri Prahesty’s Wedding.

She finally wed and Ayu is just the prettiest Javanese bride I’ve ever seen. It is sad that the number of people attending wedding shrink little by little, but the silver lining of it, everyone is busy running life they wanted and I hope, it is for the greater good.

Liza Aprilia’s Wedding

I thought, Liza is the last person who I would have seen getting married this quick. But then again, I’m happy for her. She loves adventure and I’d hope she’ll get lot of it by getting married to… what? Her 8 years boyfriend? That’s quite an achievement. And the thing about their wedding that I admire a lot that they pay all of it without their parents’ involvement. An honorable decision that I will remember forever.

On Going to Bali

I bought a plane tickets to Bali (yes, finally!) and attended a colleague’s wedding. He let us came to his house to watch the ritual ceremony the day before the reception. It’s kind of new for me. His family let us took as many photos as we can as we watched closely to each step of the ceremonies and astonished to see how many offers spent to respect the ancestors.

Speaking on the rest of the journey, I let other’s arrange the itinerary and it is included a lot of beaches visit. You know, I hate beaches. I didn’t enjoy beach as much as I enjoy port or the ocean. I didn’t swim, I didn’t dive, what I did? Parasailing.

I’m a little bit disappointed that I didn’t get a chance to walk around Ubud and went to some ‘hipster places’ on my list :)) But, someday maybe I’ll get a chance to go back there. The highlight is, I got a chance to know more about other colleague’s from my workplace who I didn’t expect to be close with.

On Opening a Booth

We did open a booth on some hype market (I don’t even understand why it is called hype anyway). The food bazaar is overpriced and we ended up buying the cheapest rice bowl on fast food restaurant for (almost) every single meal :)) We got many new acquaintances and got to meet a lot of people. There is a chance that we might met the owner of Kemala Homeliving, which we adore and we’re too star strucked to even ask. We met the owner of KadoKadi which sure a lot like a protagonist on Korean drama. Her face was an absolute reflection of what people portrayed as good people on TV (Mba Sandy, saya fans beraaat).

And finally met this cute kid named Sachi. Their parents opened a booth featuring Little Sachi and Cloudiebox stuffs, their specialized in kid’s clothing and baby stuffs which always featured cute beautiful baby at their Instagram feed. They’re quite famous for urban parents. Every people who brought baby to the event were certainly carrying a bag of their stuffs. Sure the decision to open a booth by instance and without any planning at all seems dangerous at first, but we are blessed at the end of the day. The experience to finally see each of the customer and talk to them in ‘sales mode’, is hard as well priceless :))

On LINE’s AADC Mini Drama

You know, I remember waiting in line at Pondok Indah Mall, sweating like hell, to find sold out tickets for Ada Apa dengan Cinta? for the entire day, back at 2002. I ended up watch it with some of my close girlfriends back then few days later. The mini drama is a freaking success, every social media was talking about it. About how adorable the cast are, about how flawless Dian Sastro and Nicholas Saputra are, and how the chemistry are still there. I got a goose bumps at the last scene, I mean, who doesn’t?

For a movie admirer like me, Ada Apa dengan Cinta? is not only a milestone for Indonesian movie industry back then. It is a hope and also a role model. Someday, when we looked back at 2000’s movie movement in Indonesia, we’re surely talking about Mira Lesmana and Riri Riza. we’re surely talking about Kuldesak and Petualangan Sherina. And a love story about the popular girl and a boy who wrote poems is surely one of them.

…and All about That Bass

Last summer, Meghan Trainor’s hit single All about That Bass dominated Billboard chart for weeks, beating Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off (that is a surprise) and stayed there for 7 weeks or so. The catchy lyrics and the messages on the song got the best of everyone. But some critics acclaimed the song as ‘a song to promote obesity’ and just because she said ‘skinny bitches’ some people got the wrong message about ‘how skinny people is not happy, just eat a lot and be happy forever’. In whatever sides people are seeing this, I do like this song :)) I know what message she really wants to give and you go, Miss Trainor! The rest of her EP called Title is also a pleasure to hear. My favorite live version of this song is when she performed with Jimmy Fallon and The Roots using Classroom Instruments and this cover version from Scott Bradlee featuring the talented Kate Davis and her (upright) bass.

Good night, happy people.
