To be completely honest, this pattern doesn’t come naturally to me. We were looking for the right pattern to make Bag/Tote Collection and I’ve been obsessed to find a way to translate food into a pattern. Thus, we chose ‘Kue Subuh’ as a theme. It would have been easy if we’re trying to only make food pattern, since all we need to do is translating real food into illustration. So, I try to find a way to breathe more life into it.
The initial inspiration for the pattern
The terms Cicip comes to mind since it shows our daily life a lot. Cicip means trying to taste in a small portion and I thought the best way to interpret it, is including a hand on it :)) I tried to play around with a hand drawing (and have fun by painting the nail red).
Pardon the messy progress
Turns out, I dig it a lot and ended up finishing it in a week maybe. Though I’m still trying to find out another colorway to complete it, I do love seeing it in these two colorways.
Cicip in White and Salmon
I told you before that my mind was drained a lot last year so it is not easy to find new ideas. So this one was one of the works that I also need to figure it out bit by bit. I still don’t know whether this one would fit in what products, but I’m proud that it doesn’t look like my previous works :)) You will still find traces of me by the shapes of the cakes that use more of geometric shapes that I intentionally use.
Until next time, food lovers :3
